Hey everyone...I could really use some help and advice right now. I have my leopard gecko Zilla, that I've had for about 5 years. Recently I noticed some swelling around where it's tail begins. It was only minor at first but after taking her out today it has become quite large and is quite solid and black. I've noticed it's tail has become quite skinny due to this and I'm kind of at a loss at what to do. Going to the vet I know should be top priority but money is somewhat tight right now. I don't like the idea of her being in pain and the idea of euthanizing makes me feel horrible but if its what has to be done then it's what has to be done I've attached a photo and believe me i know it looks horrible..any help or opinions would be greatly appreciated.

That's not something that you're going to be able to manage at home without some sort of veterinary intervention.

Yes, find a way to take him to the vet! Poor thing, that looks horrible. See if you can work out a payment plan with the vet or something, or borrow money from a family member.

Ohh , Thats something major here. Not a little thing, Bring him to the vet ASAP. Its been with you all those years, pay him a vet visit, He still have a long life in front of him.

That looks horrible. You should get him to a vet as soon as possible. But in the meantime, you can soak him in warm water. It should not be any warmer than their normal basking temperature. Sometimes rubbing olive oil on their lips can help if they will lick it up, it can lubricate them. I used that to get mine over impaction(which yours definitely has) about 2 months ago. But for you this option is not a substitution just to help him until he gets to the vet. Good luck!

i know what your going through my leopard gecko was going through the same thing i soaked him in warm water to loosen up the scab then poored peroxide on the wound area once a day and put neosporin on it after.then after a few days i noticed it was comeing loose the abces is what it looked like. i noticed he was biting at marble shaped wound,it was comeing loose probably the peroxide was helping detach itself.so i got some tissue ,barely touched it ,and the swollen area fell right off.it seems to look alot better .after the swollen wound fell off i put peroxide on him right away ,then let it dry up ,for a few hours ,then i put some neosporin on him ,to help heel him faster .all looks good so far.:idea::idea::idea:

so what was wrong with your gecko is he or she still alive and did u ever take it to a vet.cause the same thing has happened to my gecko
We had almost the same condition on our adult female this week. We took her to the vet and they removed alot of puss and some of the dead skin from her and put one stitch in. She is currently healing and seems to be doing ok. She ate the first night which is a good sign, but it is still going to be hit or miss because of the location of the abcess. We are using Silver Sulfadiazine cream daily on her. We don't know how she managed to get this "infection".

Just had something similar with my male Leo. Got back from the vet at 8pm after needing emergency surgery. That looks like an abscess that has already ruptured. My Leo was on the verge but the next 48hrs are critical. Plus £450 later so hoping he pulls through.
