Safe paint and glue

Im already looking into making a second level for my gecko. I think im going to use a big piece of tile and lift it off the ground by using pvc pipe in the corners. I want to glue the pvc pipe to the bottom of the tile so it has 0 chance of falling over. What type of glue can i use that would be safe? I also want to paint the pvc black with spray paint. Again, what is a safe paint i can use?

aquarium-grade silicone makes a good "glue" for such purposes. it takes several days to offgas, but once it does it's perfectly safe.

for the paint, get a latex. once dried it's just a thin layer of inert plastic.

Another option would be to use the foam board insulation and cut and shape it. Then use a sanded grout for texture, plain acrylic paints from the craft store and seal it with water based polycrylic. I think I used a non toxic adhesive to glue the pieces together on mine. The DIY section has some really cool threads to check out for foam inserts. :)

Ive looked into using foam and creating cool things with. Id like to someday make a back ground for my tank with foam. But as right now I dont have any where I can use as a work shop. So if I do make things from foam I would have more tools and a better work area during the summer.

We did ours in the living room on trash bags LOL! All we used was an exacto knife to cut pieces and texture rocky looking areas in the shelf. This time I'd like to use expandable foam and see how that works.

If you use expanding foam, are you planning on doing inside the tank, or making it outside the tank. If you do it inside the tank and dont like it, wont it be hard to remove and redo?
